Abdomen and Pelvis, Case of the Month

A 30 year old female presents with a history of neonatal demise and a history of fibroids. The patient was sent for an MR scan of her pelvis to evaluate fibroids. The 3DQ Lab acquired volumetric images to display the fibroids in the uterus along with any vessels that may feed the fibroid/uterus so that a Uterine Artery Fibroid Embolization procedure could subsequently be performed on the patient. In a UFE procedure, physicians use a fluoroscope to guide the delivery of small particles to the uterus and fibroids. The small particles are injected through a catheter. These block the arteries that provide blood flow, causing the fibroids to shrink. Nearly 90 percent of women with fibroids experience relief of their symptoms. Stanford 3DQ Lab technologists generate these images utilizing specialized 3D software tools. The images that the 3DQ Lab provides displays the pathology and anatomy which guides the surgeons prior to treating patients.
