Abdomen and Pelvis, Case of the Month

3D visualization of Magnetic Resonance (MR) images acquired from a 54 year old male with elevated prostatic specific antigen (PSA) and prior negative biopsy. The images processed at the 3DQ Lab to identify the prostate glad (brown) and borders and lesions (blue). Surgeons then feed this map into a targeting biopsy device, which aligns real-time ultrasound images to the map to guide needles precisely to the lesion.
Creating these images, which contributes to improved patient care, requires highly specialized software, extensive knowledge of anatomy and excellent technical skills provided by our experienced technologists in the Stanford 3DQ Lab. Additionally, the MRI technologists and radiologists who generate and interpret the images at Stanford Hospital and Clinics play an important role in 3DQ Lab’s ability to produce relevant information.
