CVS Clinic

Collaborators: Stanford Cardiothoracic Surgery

Stanford Cardiothoracic Surgery provides evaluation and long-term management for patients with aortic disease. Each week, patients visit to undergo imaging examinations that are followed by appointments with the cardiothoracic surgery team to review the results and discuss treatment recommendations.

Because imaging and consultation occur within the same visit, questions related to anatomy, measurements, and longitudinal changes often arise during the appointment. To support these discussions, a dedicated member of the Stanford 3DQ Lab is present during clinic sessions to provide immediate access to imaging expertise and post-processing knowledge.

Figure B. Longitudinal graph comparing aortic measurements across multiple imaging examinations.

A key responsibility of the on-site 3DQ Lab staff member is reviewing standardized measurements generated through the Cardiovascular Surveillance (CVS) program and confirming findings when needed. If concerns arise regarding longitudinal changes in aortic dimensions, anatomical changes, or measurement consistency, imaging and CVS measurements can be reviewed directly with the clinical team to support treatment planning and patient discussions.

The service utilizes a rotating staffing model that allows individual 3DQ Lab team members to provide support during clinic sessions while distributing responsibilities across the team. Future efforts may expand this model by providing access to multiple 3DQ Lab staff members through an online portal, allowing additional expertise to be available when needed. By embedding imaging expertise directly within the clinical environment, the workflow reduces delays associated with follow-up communication and provides clinicians with immediate access to quantitative imaging information.
