Abdomen and Pelvis, Case of the Month

Clinical HX: 27 year old man with pelvis fracture from motor vehicle accident; status post surgical repair with screws, persistent pain.

These 3D images represent a 27 year old man with severe excessive bone growth (heterotopic ossification) following a pelvis fracture and surgical repair with hardware.

In this case the bone growth has increased over time and extends from the hip (acetabulum) to the greater and lesser trochanters as well as to the nerves and veins in the pelvis.

The images shown were created from CT scans done pre and post operatively. Stanford 3DQ Lab’s technologists use specialized post processing software to display the disease progression.
